Using this serum with eczema-prone skin
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring molecule found in the skin and is generally well tolerated. That said, eczema-prone skin can be more sensitive and reactive, so we recommend taking a cautious approach:
- Patch test first. Apply a small amount to the inside of your wrist or behind your ear for 24–48 hours before using it on your face. If irritation develops, discontinue use.
- Apply to damp skin. Hyaluronic acid draws moisture from its environment. Applying it to slightly damp skin (rather than dry skin) helps it absorb effectively and reduces the chance of it pulling moisture from the skin's surface, which may feel uncomfortable on sensitive or eczema-prone areas.
- Layer with a moisturiser. Always seal the serum with a fragrance-free, barrier-supporting moisturiser to lock in hydration and protect the skin barrier.
- Avoid broken or actively inflamed skin. Do not apply to open, weeping, or severely inflamed eczema areas. Wait until skin has settled before introducing new products.
- Stop if stinging persists. Mild initial tingling can occur on sensitised skin. If stinging, burning, or redness continues beyond a few minutes or worsens, rinse off and discontinue use on affected areas.
- Consult your clinician. We always recommend speaking with your dermatologist or GP before adding new products to your routine if you have an active eczema diagnosis or are managing a flare.
